You're unhappy this site doesn't track you and needs not beg for permission to do so? I can't see anything being stored in cookies, localStorage, or sessionStorage. Let us know if you find that it tracks people in another way that requires consent up front

It uses a session cookie to remember that you are logged in. Commenting requires being logged in, so it definitely tried to set one on your machine.

I think you and I interpreted "this site" differently. I interpreted it as the site being linked to, this referring to the subject of the comment. I think you're interpreting it as hacker news?

At this point I'm not sure what was actually meant. The website of the article doesn't set any cookies on my machine, and HN's session cookie likely doesn't need ePrivacy directive consent since it's actually functional.

The site has .eu domain. Every freaking site in the world has to annoy 8bn people to accept or reject cookies because EU passed a a law that can cost you a lot of money if you ignore that.
